Early screenings. Equitable access. Empowered clinicians.

Where future clinicians grow and communities get the care they deserve

CommUnity Screen builds meaningful partnerships among graduate students, clinical supervisors, universities and colleges, local clinics, and community members. Here, future Speech-language Pathologists gain valuable medical experience, and individuals of all ages receive early screenings and support that promote better health outcomes.

We believe in fostering access, education, and connection—for both patients and clinicians-in-training.

Key Elements of CommUnity Screen:

1.     What’s the Need? Student clinicians need hands-on medical experience. Communities need better access to early swallowing, speech, language, cognition, and hearing care. This program bridges both.

2.     Who We Are: Speech-Language Pathologist-led community initiative

3.     What We Offer: Free or reduced price screenings in swallowing, communication, cognition, and hearing.

4.     Why It Matters: Early detection saves lives and supports quality of life

How to Get Involved in CommUnity Screen:

o Attend a screening

o Host a screening

o Become a referral partner

o Sign up to become a graduate student screener

How CommUnity Screen Works

1.     Licensed speech-language pathologists train graduate student clinicians to conduct a range of screenings.

2.     Community members attend a screening event.

3.     Participants complete an initial screener to identify which areas may require evaluation.

4.     Based on these results, they are directed to the appropriate screening stations.

5.     Graduate clinicians perform the screenings and discuss the findings with participants and their caregivers.

6.     All screenings are under the supervision of a licensed SLP and individualized. Recommendations and referrals are provided immediately.

This process promotes equitable access to essential healthcare while offering clinician graduate students valuable hands-on clinical experience.
