Are you a community member interested in being screened a a CommUnity Screen Event?

If you are experiencing trouble eating, drinking, or communicating or you are a caregiver seeking next steps for a loved one, CommUnity Screen is here to help increase access to speech-language pathology services. At our screening events, graduate student clinicians, operating under the supervision of licensed professionals, offer free and confidential evaluations for anyone in need.

For Children, Teens, and Adults, screenings may focus on:

  • Speech clarity (articulation)

  • Language understanding and expression

  • Feeding or swallowing concerns

  • Basic hearing checks

  • Changes in voice

  • Cognitive changes affecting memory and communication

Why should you get screened?

A screening can detect if there's something you or your loved one might want to investigate further. It allows for earlier detection of potential issues, which can lead to earlier interventions and best possible outcomes. Please note that screenings are not in-depth evaluations that provide detailed results or a diagnosis. However, we can provide referrals for local providers who are ready to help you take those next steps, if needed.

Our screenings are about more than just detection; they're about connection, empowerment, and building healthier communities through knowledge and access. Screenings are brief, supportive, and confidential. If something comes up, we'll help you take the next step, whether that means at-home strategies or a referral to a trusted local provider.

What to Expect

CommUnity Screen offers events designed for a wide range of individuals who could benefit from speech-language pathology services (see examples above). To ensure as many people as possible can attend, our events are primarily held on weekends.

If an event you've signed up for is canceled or postponed, we'll offer a similar event at a future date, ensuring you still get the access you need.

How to get screened in a CommUnity Screen Event:

  1. Look at our upcoming events and see if you, or a loved one, could benefit from a screening or even just some education.

  2. Fill out the online paperwork that we send you in a pre-screening event pack.

  3. Attend a CommUnity Screen event.

  4. At the end of your screening, we will explain your results and guide you through the steps for further evaluation, if needed.
