When eating around people feels stressful
If meals out feel tense or embarrassing, you are not alone — and it is worth treating.

What it can feel like
You pick the “safe” dish, not the one you want. You eat slowly while everyone else finishes. You dread the cough that might come. Some people stop saying yes to dinners at all.
The fear is real
This is one of the most common things patients tell us. Worry has a physical side: a nervous body tightens the throat and dries the mouth, which makes swallowing genuinely harder. It is not “just in your head.”
Why it matters
Eating alone protects you from embarrassment, but it costs connection — and people who eat alone often eat less. Getting help for the swallow is also getting your social life back.
How we can help
Understanding is powerful medicine. We look at your swallow, explain what we find in plain words, and build strategies for real life — restaurants, holidays, lunch at work. When swallowing feels understood, meals calm down.
